2,000 govt employees hold rally; govt issues warning

The protest by the government employees demanding implementation of the Old Pension of Scheme and abortion of fixed pay system reached a crescendo on Thursday, the last day of the two-day Assembly session, when about 2,000 of them donned black clothes and took out a rally outside the Assembly building. The show of strength by officials of various departments forced the government to issue a verbal warning against participating in the protest. The agitating employees of the Health and Family Welfare department claimed a written warning was pasted on the eighth floor of block 7 in the Sachivalay, asking them to desist from participation or face stern action.Government employees claimed the General Administrative Department issued a directive to prepare the list of all employees participating in the protest using CCTV footage. One of the agitating government employees told Mirror, “When we reached our office a warning was pasted asking us not to participate in the agitation. We are prepared to face any action. We will continue the protest till the Old Pension Scheme is reintroduced and the fixed pay system is abolished. We want benefits like an increase in salary every year considering inflation.”The agitators’ earlier plan was to enter Vidhan Sabha canteen and have lunch wearing black clothes. As the government worked overtime to ensure that they fail to do so, around 200 protesting members took two rounds of Vidhan Sabha where the monsoon session was going on. Employees of 26 departments of the state government participated in the agitation, agitators said.Health Minister Rishikesh Patel or Additional Chief Secretary Health and Welfare Manoj Aggarwal did not respond to calls to ascertain why a written warning was issued to health department employees.
