Gujarat launches family first scheme to settle disputes

Revenue minister Rajendra Trivedi on Thursday launched the Family First scheme for speedy settlement of family disputes in the state. Under the scheme, committees made of members from within and outside the executive will be formed at the district and taluka levels to address family disputes.Trivedi said the committees formed at the district level will be headed by the district collector while those atthe taluka level will be headed by the mamlatdar.The committee will also have eminent members from the society and elected representatives as well as those with sound knowledge of the law.Attempts will also be made to include at least one female member in the committee, he said. Non-government members will be paid Rs 1500 per day to hear the grievances and the payment can be extended up to a maximum of Rs 8000 per month.The committees will try to settle family disputes as per the family law after a thorough probe of the matter.
