Gujarat: National Investigation Agency gets custody of Afghan national

AHMEDABAD: A special NIA court on Thursday sent an Afghan national to custodial interrogation to the National Investigation Agency till October 3 in connection with the seizure of 3,000kg heroin at Mundra port last September. The sleuths arrested Shahin Shah Zaheer from Delhi and brought him to the Ahmedabad court through a transfer warrant. Special prosecutor Amit Nair sought the accused's remand for 20 days and submitted that his involvement in the case was revealed during interrogation of the co-accused. He was allegedly involved in the landing of semi-processed talc and in making financial arrangements. He is an active member of an international drug mafia and his interrogation may throw more light on mafia operations in the country, the lawyer argued. Shahin's is the 25th arrest in this case since the DRI sleuths busted the heroin smuggling racket. The owners of firms that imported talc from Afghanistan through Iran's Bandar Abbas were among those arrested initially.
