Gujarat: Protests within and outside house, 10 Congress MLAs suspended

GANDHINAGAR: Protests were held inside the assembly and outside the secretariat complex in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, when the first day of the monsoon session began. While 10 Congress MLAs were suspended by the speaker for the whole day, police detained dozens of people in Gandhinagar. Employees of the sachivalaya cadre and their family members assembled at Gate 1 and Gate 2, demanding that the old pension scheme be reintroduced. Some of the sachivalaya cadre employees wore black shirts as a mark of protest against the government. Later in the afternoon, a few protesting LRD (Lok Rakshak Dal) aspirants sneaked into the secretariat complex, but were soon escorted out. Meanwhile, agitating teachers were not granted permission to stage a dharna at Satyagrah Chhavni and health department employees announced a relay fast to press for their pending demands. Ten Congress MLAs were suspended for the whole day on Wednesday, as their party’s demand for a discussion on various agitations was not allowed. “We want a discussion to be held as every section of society is protesting,” said the leader of the opposition, Sukhram Rathva. As the ruling party and the opposition were engaged in a verbal duel, Congress MLAs waved placards.
