A former beauty pageant winner locked up her husband over a credit card tiff resulting in the latter calling up the police to get himself released.Chandkheda police got the husband released and later intervened to calm down matters between the couple.The womn, who was crowned one of the winners of Forever Star India - Forever Mrs India 2021, locked up her husband in a room for over 10 hours over a credit card argument on Tuesday.The retired official of a PSU initially requested his wife to set him free in the morning. When she refused, he messaged their society’s WhatsApp group which directed him to call the police.The couple lives in Motera and has a son and a daughter, both of whomlive abroadSpeaking about the incident, the senior citizen told Mirror that his wife always asks for money. “Often there are huge spendings from the credit card, which I cannot afford as a pensioner. We had a happy married life but for the last few months things have changed,” he said.”We have lost each other’s trust for the past one year and we have been married for 38 years. She wants to stay separately,” he said.He said they once had a huge fight in May 2022 in which he got violent for the first time in his marriage. “I repented it and have never done it again,” he said. Then too, the police had to be called.The woman alleged that her husband’s attitude changed after she won the beauty pageant. “He swears at me, indirectly questions my integrity and character,” she said.“He left me for a month while I was preparing for the online audition of the contest. He doesn’t allow me to use any money. I have worked hard to provide him with a home even if my contributions were not financial. I can’t ask him for money every time,” she said.She admitted that they had a fight over the credit card and she did not let him out of the room for long.“The credit card is in his name. My children are happy with the progress I am making. I prefer mental peace,” she said.She said he once beat her badly and she had to seek police help.“If he is good I can be with him. It is better to stay apart than put up with torture every day,” she said.Residents of the society said it is a domestic issue between the couple. They however said that fights which result in the police being called give the society a bad name.“They are long-time residents and regularly pay maintenance. Once they had a fight and the police had to be called and it took them over an hour to resolve the matter then,” said a resident.The society members however denounced the husband being locked up saying it was inhuman.Chandekheda Police Inspector V S Vanzara said the couple was brought to the police station and the wife doesn’t want to live with her husband. “They have decided to settle the matter in court,” said Vanzara.
