Navratri’s here and private detectives are on a roll. Parents worried about their teenage daughters and sons moving around unsupervised at night have already started approaching private detectives to keep an eye on their wards.Rajesh Yadav, a private detective, told Mirror, “Mostly the parents who approach us aren’t worried about expenses and can easily spare Rs 2.5 lakh package or Rs 50,000 per day. This is because we have to shadow the target, deploy GPS tracking systems in their vehicles and also bug clothes to catch conversation.”Approaching a private detective for various purposes has picked up lately. Besides following spouses and daughters at the behest of suspicious husbands and parents, detectives are also hired by private companies to check the authenticity of qualifications submitted by candidates for their top positions. NRIs looking for brides and bridegrooms also hire them to check the background of potential matches.Talking about the nature of cases they handle, Yadav gave an example of a prominent builder in western parts of the city. “After he found a cigarette butt in his wife’s luxury car, the builder is harbouring suspicion that his wife is having an extramarital affair. We have been hired to keep an eye on her,” said Yadav, adding that people avoid approaching cops for fear of losing prestige in the society. In another high-profile case, a principal of a reputed school refers to a doctor friend of his who suspects that his class-12 daughter is having an affair as she is always on the phone. Her parents’ suspicion grows every time she’s had long talks with her “friend”. Also, she throws fits whenever they seek to check her mobile. Yadav said, “Her parents approached us on Wednesday and within a day we tracked down her boyfriend who’s dating three girls simultaneously. We will complete the probe and submit the report in a few days.”Yadav said the inquiries outnumber the cases they ultimately accept.
