Nine candidates have cases of crimes against women

Nine candidates have declared cases related to crime against women in their sworn affidavits submitted to the EC.They include BJP candidate Janak Talaviya from Lathi constituency of Amreli district against whom a case of assault or using criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC 354) was lodged in 2015. However, he hasn’t appealed against the charges. He has also been charged with house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint (IPC-452), one charge of punishment relating to voluntarily causing hurt (IPC 323) and one charge related to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (304).Another BJP candidate Vasant Patel from Kaprada (ST) constituency of Valsad has a case pertaining to IPC-498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) lodged against him. Two separate cases under the IPC 504 have also been filed against him.Meanwhile, independent candidate from Rajkot South, Amardas Desani faces charges for assaulting or using criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC 354). While charges were framed, no appeal has been filed.An offence of assault or using criminal force against woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC 354) has been framed against Nanji Baraiya from Mahuva constituency of Bhavnagar, besides other cases. A charge for assault or criminal force to outrage modesty of woman has also been filed against independent candidate Karan Baraiya of Rajula to cause hurt, promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, faith, etc. Independent candidate from Rapar in Kutch, Goshwamy Sanjaygiri also has an offence of husband subjecting woman to cruelty filed against him.
