Only 10% state roads damaged: Minister

Even as the condition of roads in the entire state is bad, state roads and buildings minister Jagdish Vishwakarma has claimed that only 10% of roads are damaged. And there is a huge dichotomy and a very “inarguable” reason for it. The minister says that the state is on the path of development, and hence the bad roads.Gujarat has recently received many big projects like the Vedanta-Foxconn semi-conductor project. Due to this, heavy trucks and other vehicles move from on state roads, causing them to damage, he said.Besides, heavy rains this year have also caused extensive damage, the minister told Assembly on Wednesday. Replying to a question about damage to roads in Valsad and Navsari districts, Vishwakarma claimed that the “proactive BJP government” had taken up repairs on a war-footing and the Chief Minister had directed to complete the repairs before Navratri.Going a step further, the minister claimed that only 3% of roads which are under guarantee are broken. Such roads are to be repaired by the contractor. While only 10% non-guaranteeroads are damaged. These roads are to be repaired by the government. The Congress members were up in arms against the minister’s statement but they were not allowed to speak.
