Astronomers are gearing up for a rare celestial event wherein eight planets and the moon will align along a single line. Such planetary events occur every few years as each planet revolves around the sun at different speed and path. While Mars takes 686.98 days to orbit around the sun, Jupiter takes 11.86 years to complete one orbit.According to Jayant Pandya, President of Bharat Jan Vigyan Jatha, an NGO, the event will be visible in the eastern skies on the morning of June 24 (Friday), just before the sunrise, at around 5.30 am. The event will be visible from anywhere in India.Out of these, Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn would be most prominent. Citizens would be able to watch these planets with naked eyes. While Mercury may or may not be visible with naked eyes. All other planets could be seen with the help of binoculars or a telescope.Vigyan Jatha has made arrangements in Ahmedabad for citizens to watch the rare event at Manubhai Farm in Bopal, opposite Kathiyawadi restaurant. Volunteers will help people see the planets using telescopes.
