AHMEDABAD: A sub-divisional magistrate in Gujarat’s Sanand died by suicide on Tuesday by jumping from the balcony of his fifth-floor apartment. RK Patel (47) was appointed returning officer for Sanand assembly constituency. The reason for his suicide is not known, but investigators suspect he may have been under pressure at work. Patel had moved to the rented apartment about a fortnight back. Around 9.40am, residents of the building rushed to the parking area after they heard a noise. They found Patel lying unconscious in a pool of blood. “When the ambulance arrived, they found him dead. We’ve registered a case of accidental death and started a probe,” said a police officer. Patel was working till about 3am at his office, monitoring work for printing of ballots. He had called his driver at 9.30am, said a cop. Police have seized his phone and two pen drives for possible clues and will also get his call details to ascertain whom he had spoken to before jumping to death.
